Medieval castles
During the middle ages a life of luxury isn't what we would think of it as today. In medieval times, the rich nobles would live in towering stone castles usually surrounded by a moat and great, giant walls up to six feet thick. The castle wall would be done by building a hollow structure surround the entire castle. Then the hollow castle wall would be filled int by rubble, like old timber or or extra pieces of stone and rock. Even though castles would have powerful walls protecting them, they usually weren't enough. Around the castle for extra fortification there was almost always a moat. The most would vary greatly in size and after the moats were filled with water, all of the castles waste from toilets would be dumped into the moat.
Even though castles were the ideal place to live in at medieval times they still weren't as good as modern homes. They would have one giant fireplace in the great hall, and when lit the castles would have poor ventilation and all of the smoke would be trapped in the castle. Also during the Winter the castles stone surface would make the entire castle frigid cold and in the summer it would be extremely hot because instead of having windows their were small slits in the castle and the castle's stone would absorb heat.
